Ethiopia has deployed security forces to the border areas of Oromia and Afar after seven people were killed.
People carrying guns crossed into Gumbi in Oromia district from Afar around dawn on Thursday, said Fikadu Mekonen, a spokesperson of the local Oromia administration.
He added that he didn’t know the motivation for the attack.
The assailants are not known and no arrests have been made, Afar’s security head Ahmed Mohammed told the BBC.
Farmers and pastoralists in the neighbouring regions in Ethiopia have fought over resources for years. But in recent years ethnic clashes and identity based attacks have increased.
