Members of Uganda parliament raise money for the national football team

The members of Parliament in Uganda have raised approximately 59,260.45 US dollars (215 million Ugandan shillings) for the Ugandan football national team, Cranes.

According to a report by the Daily Monitor, the Ugandan parliament had the 431 members contribute about 150 dollars each for the Cranes due to their exemplary performance which led it to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, a first time for the East African nation in 39 years.

The Ugandan government funding to the national team has been confirmed to be $540,716 (Shs2bn) which has been wired to Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) for Cranes’ preparations the continental tournament which begins this Saturday.

The Ugandan Cranes were awarded Team of the year in Africa by FIFA and their goalkeeper Denis Onyango won best footballer player based in Africa.
