Man 50, in custody for hacking a 3-yr-old boy to death in South Africa

A young father is devastated after learning of the murder of his 3-year-old son, Olunje Bolisi, who was axed to death, allegedly by a relative according to News24.

The father, Simlindile Pikwa 33, who stays in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, had dropped the child off at the Covid-19 informal settlement in Mfuleni as they were on their way to a funeral in the Eastern Cape.

Mr. Pikwa said the grandmother, who was looking after the toddler, forgot him on a bed at a relative’s place.

It is alleged the grandmother’s ex-boyfriend, who she had a protection order against, told the cops that he and the relative killed Olunje.

Pikwa explained that, when he arrived at the scene, the child had already been taken by forensic officers.

“I am shocked. I am battling to come to terms with this loss,” he said.

Pikwa said Olunje was the third of his four children.

He said:

No one has arrived to explain anything to me or tell me what actually happened.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the murder were still under investigation.

However, they confirmed that a 50-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder and would appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once he was charged.

Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the family on Monday and said he did not want to divulge any details of the killing.

“This was someone that the family had trusted and was close to the family who did something like this.

“Although an arrest has been made, it doesn’t take away the pain of this family,” he said.

Pikwa said the body of the toddler would be transported to the Eastern Cape for burial.
