Ethiopia to launch own locally made satellite in 3 years

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Science and Technology is building a medium sized satellite launching rocket that is expected to be completed in the next three years, according to a report by the Ethiopian Herald

“Efforts are underway to launch a medium sized rocket into space within the next three years,” said the Ministry of Public Relations Director Wondwosen Andualem

The director further said that efforts are ongoing to manufacture both the satellite and its carrier rocket locally, this is attributed to fact that satellite building capacity has experienced growth due to knowledge and technological exchanges with development partners.

Ethiopia has formed a Space Science Council and Institute Chaired by the Prime Minister. The satellite will benefit Ethiopia’s security, weather forecast and other services
