At least eight more people has died including an uncle of the late popular Oromo singer, who was gunned down in Ethiopian capital on Monday night, his father and 80 others were also reported injured.
According a reliable source the federal authorities took Hacaaluu Hundeessaa’s body to his parents home in Ambo, however, his father, uncle and the qeerroo (a movement of young Oromos in Ethiopia for political change) in Ambo decided that his funeral should be held at the cathedral in Finfinne.
This move did not go down well with the federal authorities, who then decided to forcefully retake the body. In the ensuing confrontation, his uncle was shot dead on the spot, while his father sustained serious injuries and currently in critical condition.
The late singer’s body is now in Ambo hospital the sources said.
Meanwhile, party of detained opposition leaders, Bekele Gerba and Jawar Mohammed, says they’re “concerned” about their safety of arrest as they have not been able to visit them.
Speaking to the BBC, party official Tiruneh Gemta says the daughter of Bekele G., Bontu, are among those currently held in Maekelawi.
