The convict Thabit Jamaldin Yahya, led other suspects in staging a grenade attack at Bella Vista club, a popular entertainment spot in Mombasa in 2012, was on Thursday, 10 March 10, 2016 sentenced to death after being found guilty of the murder of a security guard at the premises, by a Kenyan court in the coastal city of Mombasa
High Court Judge Martin Muya who delivered the sentence said there was sufficient evidence to prove that Yahya participated in the May 2012 attack that left a guard dead. In his ruling,
Justice Muya said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Yahya was the owner of the bag that was found in one of the buses in Nairobi that morning with rounds of ammunition that matched those fired during the night of the blast.
The judge further said DNA tests on a toothbrush found in the bag matched his. He said this was proof that Yahya directly participated in the attack with the intension of causing death to revelers. The Bella vista club attack occured on the 15th of May 2012.
The ruling is seen as another win on the war against terror in Kenya.
