7 Killed, 17 injured in road accident in Ogun State, Nigeria

Seven people are confirmed dead and 17 others injured in a ghastly motor accident involving two commercial buses carrying 28 passengers in southern Nigerian state of Ogun, local authorities said on Monday.

Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Adegoke Adetunji said in Abeokuta, the state capital that the driver of the Toyota Hummer bus lost control of the vehicle which veered off its lane and jumped the median before crashing into the Mazda bus travelling in the opposite direction.

He added that those rescued alive had been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu area of the state for medical attention, while the corpses of those who died have also been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital in Sagamu.

Nigeria records high fatality rates for road accidents mainly due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles and violation of traffic rules by inept drivers.
