Shocker! Van Persie say he wont sign new contract at Arsenal
Arsenal captain and Netherlands international Robin Van Persie has informed fans, through his official website, that he will not sign a new deal at the Emirates.
Quoting directly from his website, Van Persie said: "I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.
"I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch.
"I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last 8 years. As soon as Mr. Gazidis is back from his 2-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments."
Earlier Arsene Wenger had said that: “We need to keep Robin van Persie at all costs because we depend on him offensively.”
The Gunners boss is ready to smash his pay structure to stop his captain moving to Manchester City.
He added: “I’ve always supported him, even in the hardest of times.
"Now I hope he’ll end his career at Arsenal.”
Reacting to the story an Arsenal fal said "Footballers are human - we cannot blame them for being attracted to big money - for just playing a game! We, the fans, have created this market - along with a load of other armchair supporters from around the globe."
