Malema's supporters take BBM campaign to Facebook

FOLLOWERS of expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema have launched a Bring Back Malema Campaign (BBM) on Facebook.

The social network campaign was launched on Sunday on the eve of the hearing of the ANC national executive committee's review of Malema's expulsion.

On Monday the ANC NEC thwarted Malema's attempt to come back from the political wilderness.

The BBM campaign is led by fashion designer Obakeng Ramabodu of OB Fitted, who made headlines early this year when he launched Juju - a clothing line inspired by Malema.

Ramabodu said the campaign was aimed at persuading the ANC to review its decision. He said they would bombard the social networks with BBM massages. Ramabodu urged young people who felt the same way to come out and support the campaign.

Another BBM campaign supporter, Modise-Mgya Mokgatle of North West, said if Malema was not brought back they would make sure that they fought for a leadership change at the ANC elective conference in Mangaung in December.

Lwando Thyobeka, of Eastern Cape, said they were going to lobby ANC branches at the policy and elective conference to reverse the decision.

"We believe there are inconsistencies in the ANC. When (national ANC spokesman) Jackson Mthembu brought the ANC into disrepute for drunken driving, nothing happened to him. The ANCYL should never have been charged in the first place. The ANC under Jacob Zuma is threatened by young voices. They have failed the young people. Julius is our leader. He was elected unopposed at Gallagher."

Meanwhile, rumours are that Malema detractors have launched a rival campaign called "Bye Bye Malema", but their page was unavailable yesterday.
